Laboratory Technician

Job description
Position Functions
Performs a variety of basic tasks to support the work of analysts in the laboratory. Laboratory Technician assists senior chemists in the design, development and analyzing the test residue.
Education and Experience

2 years of relevant experience in addition to an associated degree from a community college; or a 4-year bachelor’s degree in a science field from a university; or a total of 4 years of relevant experience.
Must be at least 21 years old
Must be authorized to work in the United States


In depth knowledge of biology and chemistry
Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, anddisposal methods.

English Language
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Basic mathematics is required.
Safety and Security
Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures of safety and security is expected

Position Responsibilities

Washing laboratory glassware and apparatus.
Preparing samples for analysis.
Receiving,logging, or storing sample functions
Performing basic repetitive analyses
Analyze the results of tests or experiments to ensure conformity to specifications,using special mechanical or electrical devices.
Setup, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test laboratory equipment.
Prepare standard volumetric solutions or reagents to be combined with samples,following standardized formulas or experimental procedures.
Supervise or instruct other technicians or laboratory assistants.

Position Authority
This position will not have any authority but may instruct laboratory assistants or newly hired laboratory technicians.
Essentially this position will report to the section supervisor as well as other laboratory analyst I, II, III.
Communicating with Supervisors
Inform all required details regarding the analysis to the supervisor
Organizing,Planning, and Prioritizing Work
Organize work on a priority basis and supervisors’ instruction
Handling and Moving Objects
Collect biological or chemical test residue and follow supervisor instruction for next step
Collect bio hazard waste and dispose in the proper way
Interacting with Computers
Enter test reports and date into computers
Processing Information
Utilizing laboratory specific database or software system to transfer information
Updating and Using Relevant Knowledge
Receiving proper training to enhance knowledge
Making Decisions and Solving Problems
Utilizing the information to make decision and solve problems
Documenting/Recording Information
Registering actual information manuallyand electronically
Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings
Observing all analysis related process,policies and materials
Evaluating Information to Determine Compliance with Standards
Knowledge of local, state and federal industry standards are required
Inspecting Equipment,Structures, or Material
Requires knowledge of industry related equipment and materials
Communicating with Supervisors and Peers
Inform all required details regarding the analysis to the supervisor
Analyzing Data or Information
Proficient in interpreting data and reporting results
Handling and Moving Objects
Collect biological or chemical test residue and follow supervisor instruction for next step
Collect biohazard waste and dispose in the proper way
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google database
